Cellular Dialers

What is a cellular dialer? For some people this is the most important element of the modern day security system. If your alarm has this ability it means that the system can call your cell phone, or a combination of you and other members of your family etc immediately a break in the alarm system is detected.

Most conventional home security systems have the ability to call the police and the security company. However, people are now much more interested in fitting their own systems, and wireless technology does away with the need for all of those wires and connections.

This has another benefit. If a burglar wants to make sure he’s not disturbed, he may opt to cut the phone lines to your house or business. If he did this, and you just had the conventional alarm system, the police could not be contacted. All that money spent on a monitored system would have been wasted.

If this had happened and you had installed a cellular backup, then the alarm system would have immediately informed the appropriate people the minute the phone lines were cut.

You can have different kinds of cellular dialers – ‘Listen In’ and ‘Two Way Voice Verification’. Why would it be useful to have voice verification? If the alarm has been set off accidentally, you have the option to stop the main call going to the police or security firm, and there by incurring a call out charge. You can also have up to eight different cell phones added to the list, so that if one isn’t answered, the system will call the others until it gets an answer. If nobody answers at all, then it will proceed to call the authorities, and send a text message to your phone, detailing when the alarm was triggered and where. Obviously, it’s not a good idea to have too many people added to the list – by the time the alarm has called everyone, the burglar would probably have finished in your house and be on to the next!

There are other applications too. Let’s say you have a water sensor fitted near your hot water tank, or somewhere where flooding is a possibility. A water sensor can be set to be triggered when the water level rises to a dangerous level, and will set of an audible alarm. But, if it is hooked up to a dialer, not only will it shut off the valve but call you to let you know what problem occurred and when it happened.

Think about how you want your dialer to work, and think about who it should call. This is just another level of protection to add to your home, one that gives you peace of mind when your are away on business or vacation.
